Larry Mechem - Pianist,Trumpeter and Arranger
Larry Mechem is one of Indiana’s most respected and renowned musicians and band leaders. He has provided dance band music in the Indianapolis area for over 50 years.
Larry began his musical career at the age of 10 playing solo trumpet in the Anderson High School Band. He also had his own dance band throughout high school. After graduation he joined several large dance bands eventually starting his own band in 1965 playing keyboards and organ. Larry started a 9-piece big band in 1970 that has continued to entertain for over 40 years. During those years, Larry performed solo as well as being involved with countless trios and quartets. Some of his musical highlights include the Guy Lombardo Band, Stars of the Lawrence Welk Show, McGuire Sisters, Ann Jillian, Mechem Family concerts and the Tom Mullinex Naptown Strutters. Venues have included Nicky Blaine's in Indianapolis, as well as for many restaurants, country clubs, Elks clubs, lodges and private parties over the past 50 years. Larry has also recorded 6 CD’s with several of his musical friends and family.
In addition to performing as a musician, Larry owned and operated 4 music stores in Central Indiana for over 40 years. His most notable business success is ownership and CEO to LM Products in Anderson, Indiana, which manufactures guitar straps and products sold worldwide for the music industry. He also was one of the designers for the Standtastic Keyboard Stand.
Larry continues to entertain as a solo pianist, as well as with bands and singers in the Midwest and beyond. His wide-ranging repertoire consists of all types of music from the 1930s to today. Some of his familiar styles include ballroom dance music, cha-cha, rhumba, polka, tango, swing and country.
